Golfing in Orlando

Florida is synonymous with excellent golf courses, and the Orlando area has some of the best courses in the country, if not the world. Central Florida’s mild tropical climate makes for great golfing year-round. Home to golfing legends such as Tiger Woods and the late Arnold Palmer, Orlando offers a wealth of golfing, and you don’t need to be a pro player or a millionaire to enjoy playing on one of the area’s world-class courses. There are dozens of great golf courses in Orlando, and though many of the best courses require club membership, there are numerous excellent courses that are open to the public. To make your choice easier, we’ve provided a sampling of the best public access courses within a range of budgets.

It’s no surprise that Disney offers excellent golfing, and don’t worry, you won’t find sand traps shaped like Mickey Mouse. Disney’s four spectacular and challenging 4-star courses– the Magnolia, Palm, Lake Buena Vista and Oak Trail – all offer breathtakingly beautiful championship level challenges that will suit even the most discriminating player.

The historic Dubsdread Golf Course, established in 1924, is the former site of the Orlando Golf Open and has hosted golf legends such as Claude Harmon and Ben Hogan among others. Dubsdread is very affordable considering what an excellent and challenging course it is.

The Ventura Country Club is a semi-private country club; the golf course is open to the public. Designed with an aim towards keeping as much of the natural environment intact as possible, this gorgeous and super-challenging course is a must-play for the serious golfer.

If you’re a nature lover first and a golfer second, then check out the Harmony Golf Preserve. This Johnny Miller Signature Design Course was built with environmental preservation in mind and wraps around natural wetlands, meadows, woods, and ponds. The course is quite good though a little bumpy; however, the pristine scenery and wildlife make this unique course worth playing.
