Pro Sports in Orlando

Sports fans, rejoice! When visiting Orlando, you’re not confined to the myriad of theme parks; there’s plenty of live pro sports opportunities in this town, too. Be it baseball, basketball, football, soccer, and even ice hockey, Orlando’s got it. Orlando has an impressive history of major league sporting events, and quite a lot of success in the minor league and semi-pro events as well. There are a number of Orlando sports teams throughout the city, and no matter what time of year you are visiting, you are bound to find something to let lose the fanatic in you.

Orlando Basketball

The late 1980s NBA expansion brought into existence one of the most blazingly hot basketball teams to ever grace the courts, the Orlando Magic. Producing such stars as Shaquille O’Neal, Patrick Ewing, and Penny Hardaway, the Magic quickly skyrocketed to their enviable place in pro basketball history. During the basketball season (mid-October through mid-June), you can catch the Magic’s home court games at Amway Center in downtown Orlando.

Orlando Baseball

Though Orlando didn’t make the 1999 MLB expansion, Orlando’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex still hosts training for the Atlanta Braves, and you can watch this legendary team hone their edge for the upcoming season. You can also head over to Kissimmee and catch innings with the Florida Fire Frogs, a Braves Class A Advanced affiliate.

Orlando Football

Want something totally exciting and different? Then check out the Orlando Anarchy women’s football team. That’s right. These gals are seriously good. Part of the Women’s Football Alliance, the Anarchy’s home field is at Trinity Prep High School in Winter Park. Take our word for it – going to an Anarchy game is just as exciting and fun as going to an NFL game, maybe even more so.

Orlando Soccer

In 2015, Orlando got its newest major league soccer team, Orlando City SC. A team to be reckoned with, Orlando City finished 7th in the Eastern Conference in 2015, falling just shy of clinching a spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs. Be sure to catch them when they’re playing at their home field, Orlando City Stadium, in the heart of downtown.

Orlando Ice Hockey

Yes, Orlando really does have a pro ice hockey team, and what’s more, they’re affiliates of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Marlies. If you’re in town during hockey season, the Orlando Solar Bears bring the knock-down, drag-out excitement of ECHL ice hockey to Amway Center. Be sure to get your tickets early though; as with all sports in Orlando, they sell out fast.
